Camp Overview
FAQ
Do I have to be a JCC member in order to attend the JCC ELC Summer Program in Brookline/Brighton?
No, everyone is welcome!
How does the JCC ELC Summer Program communicate with the parents?
Communication between parents and staff is essential in delivering quality care to children. It is important that parents feel comfortable asking staff questions about their children’s experiences in our program. Staff is available to speak to parents briefly at arrival and pick up times. Daily notes are also written for all the children who are here after 1pm and are placed in their cubbies. Staff is also available to schedule a meeting or a telephone conversation with parents to speak at more length.
What food is served at the JCC ELC Summer Program?
As a program of the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston, we must observe the rules of Kashrut; therefore, all food served is kosher. We provide a mid-morning snack. Snacks include fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, crackers and water.
How does the JCC ELC Summer Program handle allergies?
Please let us know if you child has any allergies: food, pollen, animals, etc. If your child has a food allergy, it is especially important that you notify the school prior to the summer program and also note it on your child’s medical form.
What should I send for lunch?
Please send a dairy lunch including a drink. No meat products or shellfish may be brought to camp. Lunch suggestions include: yogurt, cheese, pasta, pizza, tuna fish, bagel and cream cheese, and fruit. Please note that we do not refrigerate lunches. Please enclose an icepack in your child’s lunchbox if necessary.
What is your policy on clothing?
The JCC is a place for learning, growing and fun. In order to ensure that children can fully participate in our activities, we ask that they be dressed appropriately. Clothes should be comfortable and washable. Please have your child bring in a bathing suit and a towel. Sneakers are recommended as they are safer than clogs, Crocs, or sandals, especially when a child is running or when climbing on the playground equipment.
PLEASE REMEMBER ALL CLOTHING SHOULD BE LABLED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME
Do you have a pool?
Wading pools are set up daily for the children to use during their outside swim time. Weather permitting, these pools will be in use every day. Children in diapers must wear “swim diapers” in the pools.
What is your sick policy?
The summer program will closely supervise the health of the children. If your child contracts a communicable disease (strep, conjunctivitis, etc.), please notify the camp. If your child has a fever, diarrhea, a runny nose with thick mucous or is vomiting, please be considerate of the other children and staff and keep your child at home. Whenever your child is going to be absent, please call the office (617-278-2950, Ext. 221).
What is your policy on medication?
If a child needs medication during the camp day:
- All prescription medicines must be brought to camp in the original container (with prescription label in place)
- A Medication Permission form, provided by the camp must be signed by a parent in order for the staff to administer medication
