Camp Overview
FAQ
Do I have to be a JCC member in order to attend the JCC summer program in Wayland?
No. Everyone is welcome!
How does the summer program communicate with the parents?
Communication between parents and staff is essential in delivering quality care to children. It is important that parents feel comfortable asking staff questions about their children’s experiences in our program. Staff is available to speak with parents briefly at arrival and pick-up times. Staff is also available to schedule a meeting or a telephone conversation with parents to speak at more length.
What food is served at the summer program?
As a Jewish Community Center program, we must observe the rules of Kashrut; therefore, all food served is kosher. Mid-morning snacks are provided by the summer program. Snacks include crackers, pretzels, fruit, etc.
How does the summer program handle allergies?
Please let us know if your child has any allergies: food, pollen, animals, etc. If your child has a food allergy, it is especially important that you notify the staff prior to the beginning of the session and note it on your child’s health form.
What should I send for lunch?
Please send a dairy lunch including a drink. No meat products or shellfish may be brought to the summer program. Lunch suggestions include yogurt, cheese, pasta, pizza, tuna fish, bagel and cream cheese, peanut butter and jelly, fruit, etc. Please note that we do not refrigerate lunches; therefore, please enclose an ice-pack in your child’s lunchbox.
What is your policy on clothing?
The JCC is a place for learning, growing and fun. In order to ensure that children can participate fully in our activities, we ask that they be dressed appropriately. Clothes should be comfortable and washable. Please have your child wear his/her swim suit under his/her clothes and send a towel and a plastic bag (for wet items) daily. Sneakers or rubber sole shoes are recommended as they are safer than clogs, Crocs or sandals especially when a child is running or when climbing on the playground equipment.
PLEASE REMEMBER ALL CLOTHING SHOULD BE LABELED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME!
Does my child need a backpack?
Children must bring a backpack daily. The backpack must be large enough to store a complete change of clothing (underpants, shirt, pants and socks) and to hold summer program notices and artwork. For the safety of all, no wheels on backpacks, please.
Do you have a pool?
No. Wading pools are set up daily for the children to use during their outside swim time. Weather permitting, these will be in use every day. Children in diapers must wear “swim diapers” in the pool.
What is your policy on birthdays?
Children are welcome to celebrate their birthday at the summer program; however, please consult the staff in advance. Cupcakes, cookies or cakes must be kosher and may be purchased at Stop and Shop. Please note that Entenmanns products are also kosher.
What is your sick policy?
The summer program will closely supervise the health of the children. If your child contracts a communicable disease (i.e. strep, conjunctivitis, chicken pox, etc.), please notify us. If your child has a fever, diarrhea, a runny nose with thick mucous or is vomiting, please be considerate of the other children and staff and keep your child at home. Whenever your child is going to be absent, please call the office (508-358-5331 Ext. 400).
What is your policy on medication?
If a child needs medication during the day:
- All prescription medicines must be brought in the original container (i.e. with prescription label in place)
- A Medication Permission Form must be signed by a parent in order for the staff to administer medication
- Topical non-prescription medication (sunscreens, ointments, etc.) may be administered to a child only with written parental authorization
- All medication given during the day will be logged on the medical permission slip and then put in the child’s folder
