Leadership and Staff
Over 300 years of management experience at JCC Grossman Camp!
Stuart Silverman, Director
Stuart Silverman is Director of the JCC Grossman Camp and also oversees
JCC
Maccabi® Camp Kingswood and JCC Kaleidoscope Creative Arts and
Science
Camp. He began his career at Grossman in 1977 as counselor, moved on to
Unit Head, then Assistant Director and finally, Director. Over the
years he
has brought many innovations to Grossman while maintaining a high level
of
quality across the Camp’s programs and facilities. He is also a veteran
guidance counselor at Lexington High School. Stuart received his BA in
History from George Washington University, a Masters in Guidance and
Counseling from Springfield College, and an MA in Educational
Administration from Boston College. He is married and has two children
who
were campers and staff at Grossman Camp.
Sue Green, Assistant Director of Camping Services
Sue has been at Grossman for over 20 summers. Her expanded role as Assistant
Director has her working for camp in all four seasons. During the
summer,
she supervises the Lower Camp, the Kehillah Unit, and Jewish
programming.
During the cooler months, Sue works at the Leventhal-Sidman JCC
office in
Newton and at Sameem Associates, Inc. in Newton and Sharon. She has
been
involved with camping for over 35 summers and has been involved in
Jewish
education for over 25 years.
David Wolf, Assistant Director
David joined the Grossman staff in 1983. He oversees the Upper Camp and
is
well known Mr. Maccabiah
(he runs the color war). David has been
involved in camping for over 40 years. In the off-season, he works at
the
Solomon Schechter Day School in Newton where he teaches fifth grade and
heads the Intermediate Division.
Josh Shapiro, Waterfront Director
Josh has been a fixture at Grossman for many years! He has done a
superior
job of directing our waterfront for 40 summers. When he’s not swimming,
Josh teaches the seventh grade at the Dexter School in Brookline.
Diane Saltzberg, Special Needs Director
Diane has been involved in camping for 25 years. We have been fortunate
here at Grossman to have her as the Special Needs Director for 15
summers.
Diane has recently retired from the Weston Public Schools after 40
years as
School Adjustment Counselor. She is currently the Special Needs
Director at
the Striar Hebrew Academy in Sharon during the off season.
Barry Mindes, CIT Director
Barry has run an educational and experiential CIT program for Grossman
for
the past 16 seasons. He is currently a Site Director for Champions, a
before/after school program in Plainville, after 32 years of teaching
in
the Town of Norton. Barry also teaches religious school at Temple Beth
Abraham in Canton and has been a USY advisor for many years.
Shari Gaudet, Office Manager
Shari has been with Grossman as summer Office Manager for 15 summers,
overseeing an extremely busy, ever-changing work environment with calm
and
ease. During the off season she is the office manager at a behavioral
health practice that allows her the time to spend the summers at
Grossman.
Fred Friedberg, Transportation Director
After 38 years of teaching Fred retired to Arizona with his wife Alice
but he returns every summer and has been Director of Transportation for
the last 25 years, working behind the scenes to promote the safety of
all
campers and counselors during their trips to and from camp. He has
overseen many changes and enhancements along the way. Fred plans to
summer at
Grossman for many years to come.
Other staff with 7+ years at Grossman:
Staci Ruben, Carmel Unit Head
The summer of 2009 will mark her
10th year at Grossman, however, it
will be her 20th year involved in summer camps. When she is not
working at Grossman, Staci is a preschool teacher at the Frances
Jacobson Early Childhood Center at Temple Israel in Boston.
Cesar Habif, Negev Unit Head
Cesar Habif began his working career at Grossman Camp in 1974. After
graduating from Brandeis University in 1980, he spent the next 23 years
in the business world, working in various financial institutions,
before embarking in a career change and returning to Grossman in
2004. Cesar currently teaches 5th grade at Congregation Beth
Elokim in Acton and lives in Holliston with his wife and two children.
Renee Werber, Golan Unit Head
Renee has been the Golan Unit Head
at Grossman for the past 18
summers.
She
is a fifth grade teacher at the South Area Solomon Schechter Day School
in
Stoughton when she is not at camp.
Lee Saltzberg, 9th Week and
Kinnerit Unit Head
Lee directs the Kinnerit Unit and the 9th week program. He is a school
psychologist for the Dedham Public Schools and married to Diane
Saltzberg. He has been
involved in camping for 33 seasons.
Laura Black
Laura, RN, has been our nurse at
camp for the past several summers. She brings a great deal of
experience and warmth to our campers in the infirmary.
